Case Study: Positive Claim Resolution with Significant Cost Savings

A client’s bus was involved in an incident, causing total loss damage to a third-party (TP) vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a holding yard, where it accrued storage fees for an extensive period of 164 days. Upon being notified, QRM acted promptly to investigate and resolve the situation, especially after receiving an invoice totaling $25,960, with $21,320 attributed solely to storage costs.

Challenge

The TP had made an attempt to mitigate the storage fees by requesting that the towing company return the vehicle to their premises. However, the towing company did not comply, resulting in continued storage charges. Navigating these contradictory claims—between the TP’s request and the towing company’s response—added complexity, requiring a thorough investigation to establish the facts.

Solution

QRM engaged with the towing company, questioning the full invoice and proposing a commercial settlement. In a response that challenged the norms of the unregulated towing industry in WA, QRM offered a reduced settlement of $6,000 as a final payment for both towing and storage.

Outcome

The towing company accepted the offer, resulting in substantial savings of $19,960 for our client. This resolution not only averted potentially lengthy and uncertain legal proceedings but also preserved our client’s reputation by addressing the TP’s situation efficiently and empathetically.

Conclusion

Through assertive negotiations and careful investigation, QRM delivered a favourable outcome for our client—saving costs, reducing stress, and reinforcing our commitment to protecting client interests.
